What is an EAN?

EAN (European Article Number), now technically known as International Article Number, is a 13-digit barcode standard (EAN-13). It is the European equivalent of the UPC and is used for product identification in retail stores globally, excluding North America (though most modern US scanners can read them too).

When to choose EAN?

  • Selling primarily in Europe, Asia, or Australia
  • Listing on Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.de, etc.
  • Importing/Exporting goods globally
  • If your distributor specifically requests 13 digits
