Barcodes for Amazon FBA

Everything you need to know about listing products on Amazon. Our codes are verified to work for creating new product listings.

Does Amazon Require UPCs?

Yes. To create a new product listing on Amazon (that doesn't already exist in their catalog), you must provide a unique Product ID. The most common form of this ID is a UPC code. Without one, you cannot create the page.

Step-by-Step Listing Guide

  1. Buy a UPC code from UPC Market.
  2. Log in to Amazon Seller Central.
  3. Go to Inventory > Add a Product.
  4. Select "I'm adding a product not sold on Amazon".
  5. Enter your 12-digit UPC in the "Product ID" field.
  6. Select "UPC" from the dropdown menu (critical!).
  7. Complete your listing details!

Critical: Brand Registry

If your brand is enrolled in Amazon Brand Registry, Amazon expects your UPCs to rent directly from a leasing body to match your specific prefix.

Our codes work perfectly for:

  • New Listings / Private Label
  • Bundles & Multipacks
  • Arbitrage (Generic/Unbranded)

Troubleshooting Common Errors

Error 5665

This ensures you are authorized to sell a specific "Brand Name". Even if you aren't brand registered, Amazon protects brand names.

Solution: List the Brand Name as "Generic" or "N/A" initially. Once the listing is created, you can often edit it later. Alternatively, apply for a GTIN exemption.

Error 5461

This means you are trying to use a UPC for a brand that is already registered to another company's prefix in Amazon's system (or your own if enrolled).

Solution: This typically only happens if you are Brand Registered. If so, you must lease directly from the leasing authority. If you are not Brand Registered, ensure you select "UPC" in the ID Type dropdown.

FBA Labeling: FNSKU vs UPC

Label TypeBest Used ForCode Used
Manufacturer Barcode (Stickerless)Products where inventory is pooled with other sellers. Simplest option. The UPC Code (printed on package)
Amazon Barcode (FNSKU)Private label or specific inventory tracking. Requires covering the original UPC."X00..." (Amazon generated)
Pro Tip: Most private label sellers prefer using an FNSKU label (Amazon Barcode). You still need a UPC to create the listing digitally, but you will cover the physical package with the FNSKU sticker Amazon provides.
